622Il a été question ce week-end d’un “cadeau” US (plus de quincaillerie militaire US) fait à Israël pour que Netanyahou décide un gel de 90 jours des nouvelles implantations dans les territoires palestiniens. L’idée a provoqué un vague malaise et un certain nombre de récriminations scandalisées chez les commentateurs US indépendants.
The Economist, lui, estime que c’est peut-être moins un nouvel acte de soumission de l’administration BHO à la politique israélienne, qu’un moyen de chantage… Cela, sur son site Lexington, ce 15 novembre 2010…

… Mais enfin, quelqu’un s’est aperçu du pot aux roses, hors même des interprétations politiques (soumission ou chantage)... Dans ce “cadeau” fait à Bibi qui serait peut-être un chantage, on trouve essentiellement 20 JSF nouveaux, en plus des 20 déjà commandés, le revolver du Pentagone sur la tempe, par les Israéliens. Question : est-ce vraiment un “cadeau”, le JSF ? Un chroniqueur s’est tout de même avisé de la chose. Citant un discours (le 15 novembre) de John McCain, où le sénateur républicain attaque à nouveau le JSF («He said the Lockheed Martin Corp F-35 fighter program, now projected to cost $382 billion, was one example, saying it was “unacceptable” that the cost of each fighter jet was now double what was initially planned.”»), – Paul Woodward, de War in Context, remarque justement (le 16 novembre 2010) :
«Axe the most expensive defense program ever — sounds like a good idea. But the Israelis will be disappointed. Maybe this says something about why the Obama administration is offering F-35 squadrons as though it was handing out candy.»
Le plus intéressant, dans cette affaire, est que les Israéliens doivent diplomatiquement se forcer à sourire et à dire “merci” à BHO pour ce “cadeau” de 20 JSF supplémentaires…
